Photos >Roadways

The OC&E layout contains three different roadways based on the Faller System out of Germany. The museum purchases Faller System vehicles and kits, then Rick Inglis takes hours converting each vehicle to American 1970's era vehicles. Our biggest problem has been obtaining parts for our Faller vehicles.
Lumber Road

The lumber road contains custom build logging trucks running on a dirt road. The trucks are hauling logs from the cut area up to Weyerhauser Loadout #2 for loading onto rail cars.

Scenery highlights:
  • The logging trucks run on a long winding dirt road through tree clearings along the mountain edge.
  • There is a service truck assisting a broke down logging truck along the side of the road.
Management is still not clear why there are three guys enjoying the view of passing trains while just one guy is actually working on the logging truck.

Klamath Falls City

The Klamath Falls City road has vehicles driving around the city and stopping at the traffic lights. Vehicles include a custom built fire truck on the way to the fire at the Fireworks Company…..that just cannot be good…..

Future additions:

  • The opening of Tubby's Gas Station will allow vehicles to pull in, stop, and fuel up.
  • The Fireworks Company "mishap" will have smoke, fire glow, and all the fire trucks will get flashing lights.
  • Behind the scenes, work continues on the automated hold and recharging area. This is a long term project. Photos will be posted as work progresses.
Scenery highlights:
  • Fireworks Company mishap
  • Entire city of buildings with all the details you would find in a 1970's American town. Notice the 1970's Greyhound Bus Stop.
Klamath Falls Highway

The Klamath Falls highway has vehicles driving the highway that runs along the Klamath Falls train yard. Future additions:
  • Like most American cities, there is road construction being done. Flag men will be added to stop traffic on the highway while the front end loader crosses the highway to dump another load of dirt into the waiting dump truck.
  • A school bus will be added. The school bus lights will come on stopping all highway traffic to allow the kids to safely get to school.
  • Rumor is a police car will be setting up a speed trap along the highway. The cop will pull over speeding vehicles and issue tickets.
  • Behind the scenes work continues on the automated hold and recharging area. This recharging area will be testing moving charge paddles. This is a long term project. Photos will be posted as work progresses.
Scenery highlights:
  • Lots of good industrial buildings
  • 1970's era billboards (some lit), and a crew is putting up a new one
  • The highway being along the rail yards allows for lots of train watching.
Roadway Visual Basic Control Program

A Visual Basic program was written and continues to be enhanced to control all the functions of the Klamath Falls City and Klamath Falls Highway. The screen shows the current status of both the Klamath Falls City and Klamath Falls Highway roadways. The traffic signals cycle and match what is being displayed in the city. The recharge areas will show "trucks" to indicate occupied parking spaces. The program is in progress and will continue to be refined and add new abilities.
